ImageBRRR. Have you all had enough of this cold weather? I sure have. All that warm weather in the beginning of the winter had us all spoiled. It’s been a long week with snow and ice on Valentines Day and bitter cold the remainder of the week. While I type this report the great American race is on television. Rednecks driving in circles at 200 MPH. Does it get any better than this?

This means we are getting closer to our racing and cruising season. I sure can’t wait, it seems this winter is longer than normal. Our 2007 race schedule is set. It consists of the Barrister Cup on May 12th, seven spring series races, eight summer series races and four races in the fall series. Long Distance Race June 2nd , Ladies Day Race July 8th, Double Handed Race July 1 5 t h , Mi d d l e Grounds Night Race July 28th, Jackrabbit Race /Summer BBQ will be on August 25th and the Single Handed Race August 26th.

At the race committee meeting held in January a proposal to the bridge was passed to change the PHRF split between the non-spinnaker divisions. In the following weeks a flurry of e-mails were sent out on google groups and to myself. It made it clear how passionate our members are about racing. I’m sure some of you were overwhelmed with all the mail, but a few good things have come out of this. Racers have offered to help out members new to racing, both on and off the water. It was my recommendation to the bridge to revert back to last years PHRF split. Spinnaker: A Division up to 141, B Division 142 and up. Non- spinnaker C Division Up to 151, D Division 152 and up. My decision wasn’t based on the number of e-mails I received, but the growth in D division. Some of the members commented the growth was small or just a few more boats racing once or twice a year. Never the less more members were out on the racecourse. Our club promotes sailing, both racing and cruising. The growth in last years racing accomplished our goal. The committee boat assignments need to be filled out so we can get the yearbook to the printer in a timely fashion. The Frostbite Series is over for another year. The last two races held in February were canceled. Thanks go out to Fran and Kenny Nielsen for all their hard work in keeping this series ongoing. Was down at the harbor on the 18th of February. The eastern end of the harbor is frozen over till D dock. Pete Ramstad and I counted seven boats washed up on shore. Three lobster boats and a pleasure boats broke free from their moorings and made land on the island south of the mooring field. A couple sailboats were washed up on the south side of the harbor. It is amazing the force of current and wind. I was down in Port Jeff at the Village Center, the second floor has a photo exhibit showing the Port Jeff /Bridgeport Ferry past and present. Quit a few Arial pictures of Port Jeff. Thought some of you would find it interesting.

At our January Bridge meeting member Stew Arnold spoke of updating our club website. He spoke of all the updates and links that would make our site easier to navigate. It all sounded very interesting and we all agreed it was a worthwhile endeavor. A demo site was sent to the bridge members a week later. I was impressed with the ease of navigating through the site. Our goal is to unveil the new website at the March meeting . Thanks go out to our current webmaster Terrence Madden for all his hard work in keeping the site updated with current events.
